In the scheme of lovely things, I have been blessed with awards, accolades, chances to work with world class producers and musicians and to write with people who have taught me so much. Life is a never ending learning curve and my cup is full. In this bio I want you to get to know a little more about where I came from and how God has moved in my career.
I'm a native Nashville girl who has traveled the world but still calls our growing city home. My early years were spent studying classical piano and a few years of playing flute, marching band (still when I hear drum corps practicing in the early fall I recall the joy of being a majorette and sweating through those days with high school comrades!)
At the age of 11 I began to dip my toe in our local theatrical scene and have a deep love for musical theatre in particular. I was encouraged to write songs at an early age and by year 8 called myself “Julie Rose” which is now the name of my publishing company. My taste in music has always been everything from Rachmaninoff to Sondheim, Earth Wind & Fire to Sting. I listen to any and all music I find excellent and firmly believe God began to reveal Himself to me in my earliest memories through songs, melodies, hymns – and harmonies. Before I could name the presence of God, I met Him through music. He saved me in every possible way, calling me to His heart through the mystery of its power. These opening lines from my favorite Sondheim musical “Sunday In The Park With George” echo the opening of Genesis 1 where God birthed order from chaos. God is always bringing beauty to humanity through music, order, harmony.
"White. A blank page or canvas.
The challenge: bring order to the whole.
Through design
Composition
Tension
Balance
Light
And harmony."
All of my life I've also journaled as a way to pray, to reflect on changes, to put questions and faith and my journey into some kind of order. Three of those ‘journal moments’ made their way to books published by Harvest House which was an amazing, humbling experience.
My career continues to be a glorious mixture of recording, writing, performing with tribute bands, speaking and singing in clubs and churches, small rooms to symphony halls. I'm continually astonished at the way God uses all of this to move me closer to His heart. My desire to represent Christ in any and all settings has never been stronger. I mentor a small group of young artists and find their passion for excellence and faith blesses my socks off. As Isaiah says of the LORD, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
God is ever doing a new thing in the next generation and in the every day moments of our lives. My latest project is self titled, inspired by this description; ""Self-titled albums can also be released later in an artist's career, sometimes signifying a fresh start, a return to their core sound, or a particularly personal collection of songs." My truest prayer is that this 4th album will reflect my gratitude for a lifelong journey of faith and song, of Jesus and His beauty. In the words of Madeleine L'Engle, I will serve this work.
Thank you for stopping by my site. May God bless you richly.
